MaiaRainfall app for iPhone and iPad

The MaiaGrazing rainfall app is designed to replace the rainfall notebook/chart for your property. You can enter and view the rainfall readings for your property, and compare them to your local Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) weather station.

As well as looking at cumulative rainfall for the year, the app is designed to make it easier to think about and understand rolling rainfall, which is a much more useful concept for grazing as it gives an indication of the rain "in the bank" for production.

There are 3 different charts for exploring your rainfall:

1. Cumulative shows a progressing sum of all your rainfall entries for the last 365 days.

2. Rolling shows the changes in rolling rainfall over time. The rolling rainfall on any day is the sum of the rainfall for the preceding N days. The number of days (N) for the rolling period can be selected underneath the chart. If you set the period to 365, you get the graph of the annual rolling rainfall calculated daily. Smaller values give you an idea of how much rain you had recently, varying over time.

3. Moisture, similar to rolling, shows a rolling period except it builds in a calculation to simulate the drying effects of reducing soil moisture. After a rainfall event the moisture in the soil from that rainfall event will slowly reduce to zero according to the number of days you set, based on your experience of soil moisture retention for your property. The graph displays the rolling sum of this total effective moisture over the selected period. You can fine tune this to suit your property by varying the rolling period, to give you an idea of how much effective moisture is in the soil.

For any chart, you can select either the rainfall recorded against your property, or the rainfall recorded at your selected BOM weather station. The chart will also show the same calculation applied to the long term average rainfall data.

The app synchronises with the cloud so you can share your data amongst multiple users and devices, and never have to worry about backups.

The App currently only supports Australian Bureau of Meteorology stations, although you can record your property rainfall data for any location.
